Burning Love

This year, I didn't just have food in my garden. In addition to seed-producing sunflowers, I tried to grow three types of ornamental flowers. Only one survived.

Burning Love

This is burning love. Sort of. I just now found out that this is a pretty weak version of it, it's supposed to look like this. I chalk it up to a small container.

I didn't realize at the time how hyper focused this was going to be on the blooms. It almost looks copied and pasted!

Balloon Flowers Burst into Bloom

I love balloon flowers. I had never seen them before last summer, when I noticed them growing in the garden of the Ames Florida Stork House in Rockford, MN. Aren't they beautiful?

So why are they called balloon flowers? Observe what the bud looks like before it blooms.

Closed Balloon Flower

Neat huh? I love the lavender hue of these flowers. This white variation is also delicate and bright, almost like a star!

Red Columbines

I love spring and the many flowers it brings. Red Columbines like these in particular bring back memories of my childhood. They grew wild on my grandparents' farm near Little Falls. When I was young, I would eat the nectar-filled lobes from the back of the flower. Quite tasty, as I recall.

Yellow & Red Tulips

Similar name as the last post, slightly different concept. More tulips have bloomed at the Ames Florida Stork House. They are definitely up there in my top 10 favorite flowers.

Red & Yellow Tulip

I spotted this single tulip in the front yard of the historic Ames Florida Stork House in Rockford, Minnesota.

I also snapped a few photos of some prolifically growing lavender-colored flowers. I love spring and all of the pretty flowers it brings!

White Flowers Everywhere

In the Rule of Thirds photography assignment from last week, I included a picture of some white flower buds. I thought they were just rose-like in appearance. A few days ago, I saw the same flowers and they had made a wonderful transformation!

They are beautiful! I don't know what they're called, though. Does anyone have any ideas?
